I have a family member that owes $300.00 in taxes and hasn't yet paid it. Will she still receive a check? If she pays it, will she then receive one?

  1. If you owe any taxes, that amt. is automatically deducted from your stimulus payment.  Since the checks are already running, it's probably too late to pay it and get a check, as it will take time to adjust in the computer system.  Best bet is to just wait and get whatever, if anything, is left over after the taxes are paid.

  2. The amount she owes will be deducted from her stimulus payment, and she'll get the rest if there is any left over.  Her payment will be delayed while the deduction is made, though.

  3. Nope

  4. The rebate allocation program does not look at IRS debts--it simply calculates the rebate, adds it to the account and generates the letter.

The IRS, of course, will apply the rebate to any amount owed before releasing the remainder.

The problem with not having paid a debt is that interest and penalties accrued since 4/15.
