Question:

Will something like the Sea Eagle 330 withstand Ocean/Open water?

I read that it can take up to Class III Rapids, but how well will it work with Ocean water? I have a hardshell kayak now, but one of my biggest problems with it is launching locations, and portability. So I was considering an inflatable, but don't know how it will handle against sea wildlife mostly. Rocks I hear they are really sturdy against, but things like stingers from ocean life I don't know (though I may rarely encounter such life, it's nice to be prepared...)

  1. The biggest risk would be wind. If you have wind and waves building up you might be in real trouble trying to steer.

As far as durability is concerned it will probably handle quite well. Being flexible it will adapt to waves and small breakers quite ok. Stingers should not be a problem

  2. I don't know that I would take an inflatable kayak out on the open ocean.  Those are mostly recreational boats for playing on a river or calm lake, not waves and strong currents.

For ocean kayaking I have a couple of Necky touring kayaks as well as a sit on top Ocean Kayak just for fun.

Did you want to clarify what your current boat is?
