  1. If you are not drawing SS benefits, you don't have to tell them but it will make things easier at tax time next year.  As the name change will kick out as an unmatched SSAN and delay tax rebates.  Just go to the local SS office and fill out a form it takes 5 minutes.  May be able to requires the form over the phone.

    If you are drawing SS payment yes you must contact them as it may effect your payments.
