  1. Did you know that the US has the highest number of youth deaths in the Western world - because of guns.  Now whether or not that is a concern to you, is as you say "your choice".  Mind you I would prefer to send my child to school without worrying that a crazed student could walk through and start shooting. This is not a criticism - just an observation and opinion.  Americans seem very protective of their gun rights - great - but don't you think that when schools and colleges are often used as places where disturbed students vent their anger with guns, that some sort of control needs to be put into place? And yes every gun loving person can come crashing down on me for saying all of this and argue that US has higher or lower fatalities - BUT name a country where school students are used as shooting targets as often as the US?

  2. No, the only think is will do is increase the illegal gun trade.  Sometimes the majority of the people who are wither shooting or killing others do not even qualify fro a gun card now (Jail records) so changing it may have a little effect but then it will just create another problem with trying to stop the sell of illegal guns and THE US still have not made a dent in the war on drugs

  3. Research Chicago homicides this year and then ask your question.

    As for Britain....

"A litany of failures were apparent as early as the year 2000, when CBS news reported that law and order in Britain was deteriorating at a rapid rate, while the country was experiencing a crime surge much more severe than any recorded in the U.S."

"use of handguns to commit crimes rose 40% two years following the total ban on guns."

"In 2002, the chance of being mugged in London was approx. 6 times greater than in New York City, NY." (which as strict gun control as well).

“In fact, the motherland was indeed racing ahead by a substantial lead, sporting a crime rate in England and Wales that at times peaked at as much as 60% above the crime stats here in the U.S., with gun crimes being especially prominent?”

Lantz, Gary (2/2008), Backfire in Britain,

Gun Control is a feel good idea...nothing good will come out of it.

  4. No! As a matter of fact studies have shown that in towns that made it mandatory to own a gun....crime has actually decreased.

  5. Absolutely not!  Why?  Because, criminals do not follow the laws that they choose to break.  This would include gun laws.  You can crack down on guns all you want, but if a criminal wants one bad enough, he/she will get it.  All this will do is render the average law abiding citizen defenseless.

  6. No for one simple reason, gun control laws only affect the law abiding citizen. gun control laws have NEVER take guns out of the hands of criminals.

  7. California:  yes.  It will reduce the availability of guns.  Guns are used by bad guys in drive-by shootings.  But even better would be strict ammunition control laws.

Los Angeles County:  the domestic terrorists are killing American citizens faster than the war in Iraq is.  These domestic terrorists are mostly Roman Catholic.

  8. Absolutely not, people willing to kill people dont care if their gun is illegal or not. We have concealed carry in Florida, the predictions of being like the wild west were false. People who qualify to carry concealed guns dont commit crimes.

  9. No.  Criminals will still carry them. You know they don't follow the rules we have now.  Why would they follow more?

  10. No. Right now the two prime examples of the failure of gun control are Washington D.C. and the City of Chicago. D.C. will be changing shortly.

Both have a total ban on the ownership of handguns and strict prohibitions on the ownership of long guns.

Both cities have the highest rates of crimes committed with firearms in the Unites States despite the bans.

It's a simple fact that most everyday people will follow the law. And criminals don't.

  11. no,just look at where the bans were.homicides went up.look at dc for instance.

  12. No, because with current and expired gun laws the homicide rates have not decreased.

Gun laws actually drive up the cost of guns and ownership.  Background checks are good, I have no problem with it.  However, what good is it really doing?  If stats were checked nationwide of crimes involving guns, it would be found that most of the criminals have a record and would not have passed the Brady Bill background check, the guns used in the crime were stolen or obtained illegally.  I'm willing to gamble everything I own (not much) that very few of these crimes were done by someone with no record and who legally purchased the firearm themselves, have it in their name, and used it in the commission of a crime.  The same goes to CCW people, how many people have a CCW permit and just decide the next store they walk into they are going to rob simply because they are carrying a gun?

This is exactly why gun laws don't do anything except make anti-gun lobbyist happy.

Edit:  Bubs Mom, with the exception of the VT shooting, these kids are not getting the guns legally, so what good are gun laws?  You can have all the bans you want in place, but the kids still will get guns.  They may take it from one of their parents, they may have a friend find them one, they may steal one...in that case what good are gun control laws really doing to prevent crimes?

High Schools and Middle Schools are a little different, but just imagine at VT if students or staff were allowed to be armed?  The violence could have been stopped much sooner and saved several lives.  Instead, the Universities are keeping their staff and students at risk by not allowing them protection if the want it.

  13. guns will never be banned, americans love their guns and beer.take that away, their will be world war three

    my sister's husband kevin

    got a HUGE BEER BELLY

    I thought he was pregnanr.

  14. it has in the uk

  15. Without a doubt ... NO!

Those who want guns to commit crimes will still get them ... from the same "vendors" that handle illegal sales of drugs.  The strict gun control laws will only affect the law abiding citizen that, by definition, obey the law!

Want an idea that will reduce the number of violent crimes (including murders) in the USA?  Allow any citizen that has no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions and is free of documented mental disease or defect the absolute right to keep and bear arms!  If the victims are armed, the predators have a more difficult and dangerous task.  Some of those predators will end their criminal career rather than take a chance at getting shot.

Look at Washington DC.  Very strict gun control laws ... very high violent crime!  With a population of 550,521 in 2005 they had 195 murders and "non-negligent manslaughters"  A rate of 35.4 per 100,000 population.

Neighboring Virginia had a population of 7,567,465 in 2005.  With 461 murders and non negligent manslaughters for the same year ... a rate of 6.1 per 100,000 population!  If strict gun control reduced the murder rate ... how come Virginia (with far less restrictive gun laws) has a lower rate than DC with very strict gun laws?

How about New York State?  Even though New York City has a very high population density (similar to or exceeding DC) the numbers again show that DC defeats itself with restrictive gun control laws.  New York State's numbers 2005 figures population:  19,254,630.  Murders and nonnegligent homicides:  874  Rate per 100,000 population:  4.5.

Pick some states, use the chart I linked to to check it out!  DC had the worst rate I could find ... and bragged about the most restrictive gun control laws at the same time ... connection?  I'll let you decide!

  16. No, they will be higher because the d**n criminals will still be able to get guns.

Gun control means using both hands and knowing what your target it.

The anti-gun people need to go live in a different country, they aren't welcome here in the US.

  17. No, I doubt that it would.  Since the people that commit murder will always be able to get their hands on guns, if they want.  People that commit murder are not going to  follow gun control laws. they won't let gun control laws stop them from getting a weapon.  If they want a gun they will go out and buy one from off the streets some where.

I don't think that there is any thing wrong with having set rules for being able to own weapons.  Such as you have to have it registered, or for people to have to have a waiting period before being able to purchase a firearm.  Or even that they should have to take and pass a range/safety firearms course.

I hope that this helps answer your question.  I wish you all the best/

  18. No, the criminals that commit the homicides don't care about the legality of the situation, they're not going to turn in their guns.

Making guns illegal will make guns go away the same way that making drugs illegal made drugs go away,,,and we all know how hard it is to find drugs.

And besides, if I decide I'm going to commit a homicide, a gun would not be my weapon of choice, too much evidence left behind.

  19. What do you mean by "will"?  What do you mean by "Strict"?  You pose a question with many variables, an assumption that your variables are coming without question, and then ask us to explain?

Insufficient data to postulate a hypothesis.

But; WOULD "strict" firearms control regulations, in violation of the Second Amendment, cause fewer homicides?  Well, if you consider deaths in armed conflict due to civil war 'homocides', then no.  There would be hundreds of thousands of them.

  20. Of course not.  Most murders are committed by career criminals.  They'll have weapons no matter what.  Cocaine is banned in the US, yet nobody has trouble finding it if they want to.  If legal gun sales were banned, they'd just include them in their drug shipments from other countries, steal them from cops, etc., so criminals would still be armed and kill people (who would then be defenseless).
