Question:

Will swimming get my body into shape?

I'm 6'4", 220 lbs. I don't mind my weight, but my body is really out of shape. My butt is about the same size as my shoulders, I have a big belly and my arms look like spaghettis.

My legs look great, though. Will swimming get my body into shape and make me look at least normal? Also, how long until I start seeing some results?

  1. oh yeah swimming is a great exersize . do you plan on going everyday cause the more you go the better results u will get .

  2. swimming is great because it works your muscles, but doesnt put strain on your joints, double whammy. the best way to work out in the pool, is to cross your legs (if theyre already toned) and, while swimming, try to keep your legs as high in the water as possible. its hard but it works. if your trying to get good abs, lie on your back, put your hands by your side, and kick like a dolphin (both legs together and kick up and down). make sure you stretch and take it easy for a bit incase you injure yourself. but dont expect miracals, it will take time

  3. well, my summer swim team just started up and i am really getting into shape. if it works for me, it can work for you

  4. yes it will it is great exercise

  5. Yeah, swimming is the best form of exercise in my opinion, though I am a little bit biased. It works every muscle in your body and, if you are patient and hard working, you will have a more toned body.

  6. yh if you go quite a few times a week

swimming is one of the best forms of exercise

  7. yes swimming is great for total body toning and it is low impact so it is good for joints etc.  Learn the different strokes if you don't already know them.  It takes time to see results and depends on if you diet too.  If you diet maybe start seeing a change in 6 weeks.

  8. Swimming is a great sport to do if you want to get in shape. But, like any other sport, it takes dedication and time to do it. You can't see results overnight.

People all don't loose weight and get in shape at the same time. It might take some people longer and other people less time. It just depends on your body and how much you swim.

Diet also has a lot to do with it. Just because you are doing a sport that will help your body doesn't mean that you will be in shape if you drink sodas, cookies and chips. Try not to eat out as much and drink mineral waters and regular bottled water instead. They are better for your body and you will loose a few pounds a year if you just cut soda out of your diet.

Also, if your concerned about your stomach, then do some sit ups. You don't need to be limited to just one sport if your looking to get to a decent shape. Do do twenty sit ups a day, ten in the morning and ten at night and for every week, add five sit ups to it.

Make sure you have someone motivating you too. Someone who will make sure that you stick with your swimming routine, and not drop out when it gets too hard.

  9. YES, swimming uses every muscle in your body..it is relaxing yet so toning. The reason you get so hungry when you swim is because your body is working so hard and burning fat, using muscles. If you go in the pool everyday maybe with some weights on your arms and legs it will help even more, but yes swimming is a great workout!!!
