Will taekwondo help footwork?

im like 6'2 and im going to start taking martial arts but im going to learn different styles and i need something to help me with kicks, ballance, and footwork, is taekwondo good for this and how long should i take it? thanks

  1. Yea! It sure will. I do taekwondo and it helps alot!!! It also helps you in self defence. Hope I helped!!!


  2. Simple answer yes.

    Detailed answer- Any stand up sport with sparring will teach you footwork. However some sports do this better than others as some of the more hardcore traditional sports have very rigid stances that can take longer to unlearn than to learn.

    Taekwondo is one of the best, make sure they do sparring though, the form work is no good as far as active footwork is concerned. Very cool kicks, although whenever i spar them they tend to use overly elaborate kicks.

    The other option i would rate highly is muay thai. Little more agressive and less fancy, there'll be no spinning jumping back kicks, more short and brutal is the way they do them.

    My personal experience of karate practitioners is that they're like statues. Amazing kicks though,

    I know you said kicks, but the king of footwork that will work for most martial arts is boxing.
