I am 16 years old and i have very low self-esteem hense i work out every day of the week exept on weekends. I run and jog alot during my workouts and sometimes i feel like i can't go on anymore and i try not to but sometimes i might walk a little or take short breaks, will this effect my workout in a negative way? And yes i keep hydrated while working out and running.

  1. Depends what kind of running your doing. If its progressive, endurance, speed training, warm-up jogging, or long distance, or fat burning the outcome will be different. If your doing speed training say, then your supossed to take breaks of about a minute after for every 100m sprint you do, unless you or your coach is pushing you to do more. if your doing warm-up jogging then you should try not to stop, its hard to stop though bcz u should be going very slow so it shouldnt be a problem. If your doing progressive, endurance, long-distance then you should know your limit, as with all styles of running, and dont try to push it. find a comfortable speed and rythm and stick with it, if you do you will find it easier to progress and you will become more quick. If you are doing fat burning running, thats what it sounds like your doing to me, then you should pick a different style of running. Fat burning or calorie counting running on treadmills or on the street isnt really a style of running and most people who do it just care to loose weight, they dont warm-up or stretch properly and they dont have a specific style or rythm to follow they just care to give it their all get themselves tierd and go home without a cool down. over long time u'll get reall sore and lots of injuries, many that are chronic injuries so dont do it.

haveing said this i think that if you have to stop while running you are going too fast no matter what your style of running is, so take it easy a little and you'll get used to it, then you'll get over-used to it, and then you'll progress. and if your goal is weight loss you will have done that in a way thats effective yet safe! (assuming you chose a real style of running)

  2. Eh, You should try to keep going. But as long as you keep at it, it will work. Don't be so hard on yourself. Lots of people don't work out at all.

  3. Jeff Galloway has long advocated walk/run as a good tactic in both racing and training.

In training and building endurance one of the goals is to keep your heart rate elevated.

A short walk break should not interfere with that - and if it permits you to continue your workout it is a good thing and nothing to be concern with.

  4. No, it is an excellent idea to slow down even to a walk when you need to.
