i think they remain in the list even if theyre dead. seriously they dont update. instead they will come up with a new list like 50 greatest players of the 21st century or of the new millenium. or Gatorades' 50 greatest players.

If you mean through a special ceremony through the NBA, I doubt it. I would think there would be a unique celebration at the association's 75th anniversary, which would expand the list, though making sure that the majority or all of the 50 still receive recognition.
