So much conjecture about the expansion of the AFL with the proposed new Gold Coast Franchise.....I sit perplexed with excitement.... Will the AFL have the staying power to last, and possibly expand into a truly international sport? Lets face it, Melbourne somebodys v Adelaide also rans isnt exactly setting the world on fire... Thoughts?

  1. Impossible.

The AFL would be seen as a joke by other nations.

It would be impossible to learn the rules as the umpires themselfs interperate them differently each week anyway. And with Demitriou in charch it would just sell out to be a watered down version of the game.

  2. nah not really because afl would be really c**p if it goes international, the fact that we wouldnt care about the afl league anymore and like only like the international games, look at cricket lol, who watches them games against nsw vs vic, only like 10 overs or 20 overs, only REALLY CRICKET FREAKS WOULD WATCH THE WHOLE GAME, but there isnt gona be alot of FOOOTY FREAK FREAK FREAKS, im a freak of the game too but just that international would be **** as for the sport

  3. No, AFL is much better as an Aussie sport, because:

    1. No one can replace NRL, in all its awesomeness

    2. NO ONE can replace NRL, in all its awesomeness

    3. NO f****n ONE CAN REPLACE NRL, IN ALL ITS AWESOMENESS

    Suck SHIITTTTTT AFL

  4. Never in a million years. Perspective - A  country of 20 million, of which maybe 5% care a fig for Aussie Rules, trying to IMPOSE our footy on other countries where Soccer is king. It is the maximum height of arrogance to expect to succeed.

Trouble is AFL is blinded by its own self importance and the apparent hysteria demonstrated by fans here. Cricket is Australia's National Game. AFL cannot even win against other football codes in Australia, yet it plays at being international. Give me a break.

Huff puff Andrew, and blow your house in.

  5. Try never.

The majority of people who follow AFL, from the southern and western states want to keep it for themselves.

The rest of the country, who follow international games, such as the Wallabies vs Springboks Rugby test, know that it would be a waste of time to try and make AFL international.

I agree with my southern colleagues, keep it there

  6. is anyone else interested?

    i doubt it..

  7. i dont think it willl become a world finominon but it will last for at least another 150 years

  8. Yeah your pretty right in a way, i dont want the afl expanding so much that the fact that it is a true australian sport dies away!

It should stay within australia, i really love the fact its a true blue aussie sport.

  9. NO WAY, we dont want it tobe like the NRL has and lose all our players overseas, let them have there 'international" status, we will have our superstars playing at home thank you very much!!

  10. When you write about expanding into a truly international sport, there are a few points to make.

    1. Regular season games MUST NOT leave Australia.

    2. Preseason and other exhibition matches should not venture too far away from Oz. London, South Africa and the USA, too far to transport the teams with a logical ability to compete.

    3. Replace Andrew and his wankers, these guys couldn't market water to a man dying of thirst.

    4. The AFL is trying to make money. No truthful effort has been made in the USA to market the game to the country. No real, logical television plan for those of us in America who love the footy. There has not been any useful plan to televise footy in the USA since the 2005 Grand Final.

    5. The Associated Press, ESPN SportsCenter or Fox Sports do not provide scores, match accounts, play video highlights of AFL matches or discuss the games, the ladder, the players or the teams.

    6. Kevin Sheedy is the only worthy person involved with Australian Rules Football to market the game to the world. Most people in the USA do not know about footy. Former AFL players Darren Bennett, Ben Graham and Saverio Rocca are thought to be rugby players. The USA media thinks that Australian Rules Football is rugby--WHAT AN INSULT to footy. The AFL has not made ANY effort to educate and market the game to the USA.

  11. Dont you mean an International g*y orgy

  12. It already is, with over 30,000 overseas players registered in nearly 20 countries. Sixteen international teams are now in Melbourne to play for the Aussie Rules equivalent of Soccers World Cup.

Starting Wed. 27th. in Royal Park Carlton. get there from Royal Park station on the Upfield line.

    See http://www.afl.com.au/AFLHQ/Development/...

for full details on the International Aussie Rules Cup.

  13. I'd like to keep Australian Rules just that - Australian. Sure, they can promote the game overseas, but when it comes to expanding AFL, and the actual league, it should stay in Australia.

Anyway, before the AFL even think of going overseas, they should set up a team in Tassie!

  14. What was that Greg Inglis? Not that many f**s on the Gold Coast??

Are we talking about the SAME Gold Coast?

    Edit. Hey! Where'd he go?

  15. i hope not.  i want it to stay here in australia
