With the rays hot the red sox are still in contention...only 4 games out and a month to go i believe the red sox are going to come away with the division....i mean they still have 6 games with them...so with that being said do you think they will take over the rays and be al east champions??? and how far will they make it in the playoffs?

  1. Depanding how the red sox play the rays and what yankees do with the rays.

if yankees can sweep rays  thats good for me as long as we win today.

  2. It is not a lock and I fully expect the second place AL central team, Twins or White Sox, to push them down the stretch.  With that being said I believe the Red Sox will go to the playoffs as the wild card.

  3. Right now, the Sox are just focused on making the playoffs, but catching the Rays would be great, because the Sox would then be able to avoid meeting the Angels in the 5 game opening round series. The main priority now is getting guys like Beckett and Lowell healed up and ready for a long playoff run.

Oh and by the way, Kotsay is eligible for the post season roster, because any player on a teams active 25 man roster before September 1st is eligible for the postseason.

  4. It may be a tight race in the division, keep in mind while everybody keeps bringing up the fact the Rays play in Fenway, they also play a series at the Trop. which they have already swept the Red Sox twice this year there. It is possible for them to take the championship if the Rays start to fall. They have to finish the series with NY plus one in NY, two series against Boston and a four game series against Minn. It all depends on what the Rays do in Sept.  If they can continue to play strong Boston will have to settle for the wild card.

  5. The Rays are managing to keep this lead without Crawford and Longoria.  I think they will keep it up.

4 games out with a month to go seems like a large enough lead over other wild card teams, but not when the Sox are trailing another team?  Double Standard perhaps?

  6. I think the Red Sox will win the division and they may even be in first place next week...with the way their rotation sets up against the Rays next week at Fenway, the Sox could sweep and be in first.

  7. Realistically, they'll get the Wild Card.

    Hopefully, they'll get neither.

  8. Hopefully neither but chances are better at wild card

  9. The rays will win the Division and even though i hate to say it the Red sox will win the wild card. But with the way they have been playing the teams like tampa and angels they wont make it far in the playoffs.

  10. Kotsay is postseason eligible. He was acquired before 31-August. There are no constraints upon his participation.

  11. I hope so. You guys just got Mark Kotsay right? He deserves a trip to the playoffs because he's a great player. He's older but will help the team. Yes I am a Braves fan our team stinks so my wishful World Series match up would be the Red Sox vs Cubs.

  12. Red Sox Champions of the division

    Yankees Champions the Wild Card

  13. yea they are probly going to get the wild card and not the division. which means they will clich the wild card and pedria will not get the mvp and mike avilies is or K ROD

    Go Royals

    Go Angles

  14. Kotsay most definitely is eligible for playoffs.  That deadline that you were referring to probably is the July 31, non-waiver deadline.

The red Sox can win their division, but only if the Rays cooperate.  It doesn't look like they are willing to do so.  I guess it will come down to their head to head. Even then, if the Rays are four up, the Sox need 5 of 6 to tie.  The Rays haven't shown that they will go that easily.
