Question:

Will the COT open up aggrssive driving techniques?

Talladega they were running 4 wide at points, especially near the end, and were able to hold it through the track. We saw some 3 wide running @ Richmond. Not to mention how drivers have been able to save the car in what would have been a sure accident in previous cars. Then there is McDowell and Gordon's crashes, that showed how safe the car is. Will drivers start to compensate for the COT's lack of speed with some aggressive driving techniques?

  1. Yes!  I think that is the idea to get back to 'old school' type racing.  They can be crazy & basically safe.  It sure has been fun to watch.

  2. Yep,

it already has, and I think that is what NA$CAR wanted.

More "rubbin is racin" without injuries.

Cars that can bang off each other, and keep on tickin'.

The drivers have figured this out already, they just aren't talking publicly about it (yet !?)

And it will get rougher yet, till the "bad boys" of racin', figure out just how hard they can "push the envelope", just "how close they can get to the edge"

The question is, just how aggre$$ive NA$CAR will let them get?

  3. you should pick your question as the best answer.

    *****************yes!

  4. Oh yeah!! they are already doing it. I think this will make a clear separation line between the scrubs and the top dogs. The top dogs will be able to do way more with the cars and make it look a whole lot more exciting then what the scrubs will be able to do.

  5. Yes. The speeds arent all the lower then with the previous car. Its just that the COT is so much boxier that people think so. It was only a slight drop, nothing like 20 mph or more. The COT has the splitter and that extremely bulky rear wing, and the car is so much harder to driver, and instead of the car being all about aerodynamics its about how well the driver can drive. We see who is a great driver and who is just mediocre. Talladega always has its moments where you think something HUGE is going to happen because they are running 4 and 5 wide. Sometimes thats just not possible and the draft just makes that situation even worse. Take that instance with Jamie McMurray and Kyle Busch, where both lost it and could have caused a serious wreck, and yet somehow both by some miracle saved their cars. That was an awesome save by the way. Gordon has took a few hard hits. I remember Vegas, where he took that extremely hard hit against the inside wall, and then a few weeks ago, he was struggling all day, and eventually crashed and took a nasty hit. McDowell's was one of the worst crashes people throughout the sport have seen in a while. I hadnt seen something that graphic in a while. It was just a matter of time before something like that happened though. The car is a miracle worker but that was the point for designing it in the first place. The driver have and always will be aggressive its just they have the speeds to make up for and they want to push the limits and see how much NASCAR will let them get away with. Considering the fact no one has gotten busted for COT violations.

  6. I think it already has.

  7. I think yes. I believe the drivers have developed a mental picture of a very safe car under them so they go out on the edge a bit more. I believe we will see that aggressive/assertiveness escalate for a while.

  8. Yes, definitely and they are already doing it. I think the drivers are feeling safer, and braver, and they are setting themselves up in stickier situations.
