I lost my ssn card and I am moving out of state, I need ssn card to register my vehicle and change my license to the new address. The DMV (all DMV offices for every state) say that they want your SSN card as an original, no copies. If I went to the Social security office they would print me out a statement which gets stamped saying that my social is valid and my card is being mailed to me. They claim at the SS office that for the time being this is just as good as having the card.

Do you think the registry will accept this or will I have to wait for my new card to arrive? Anyway around this? I need help, thanks guys.

  1. DMV won't accept a letter from SS office. They need the official card, nothing else will do. The SS office may tell you that the DMV will accept a letter, but they don't. SS office only tells you that to get you out of their hair. You'll have to wait until you get the card... Sorry.
