What I actually want to know is how long does it take you in the mornings to drive from your house to your work? And how many kilometers?

  1. When I do drive directly to my office and not have to drop my son off at school, which I normally do everyday, it takes me roughly 5 minutes, only a couple of km's. When dropping my son at school, I have to get onto the N4 towards Pretoria and drive about 5km to get to the school and then get stuck on the off ramp, every bloody morning, and then stuck again getting back onto the highway, then driving the 5km in the opposite direction on the N4 again only to get stuck yet again on the off ramp to my work, the process normally takes about an hour and its only about 12 km, when load shedding comes into play it's an absolute nightmare.

The Gautrain will be forced upon those using the N1 between Pretoria and Johannesburg, plans are already in place to toll the entire freeway, leaving the Gautrain as the only "affordable" alternative, lets face it though, it can't get any worse than it currently is, when I drive to Johannesburg in the mornings (rarely anymore), the approximate 60km can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours now and it's bumber to bumper the entire way, I avoid that drive at all costs.

My major concern is what public transportation is going to be available from the Gautrain terminals? Nothing in Sandton, Rosebank etc is in walking distance and further to that, it's not safe to walk around those areas and surrounds.

  2. I stay one km from the kids school, and 8 km from my office. The whole trip takes around 15 min in peak traffic.

  3. I work also drive to work , 7km from home and i drop my daughter off at creche which is on the way , in total with dropping her off , it takes about 15mins max.
