they are over the luxury tax already. if they sign anyone they will have to pay that same amount to the NBA.  they dont need it. if it aint broke dont fix it.

Right now i think the Lakers #1 priority is re-signing Sasha Vujacic.  i haven't heard anything about it- apparently whatever they offered Sasha- Sasha is trying to hold out for more and see if someone will give him more.

Duhon was already signed with the Knicks, and Bonzi Wells is available- although the Lakers have a gluttony of Small Forwards (although i would much rather see Bonzi than Walton on the floor)-- i actually think he would be a decent backup- as a solid source of offense off the bench.

The Artest deal is seemingly dead- and i'm glad because i did not want Kenny Thomas' terrible contract- and Lamar's expiring $14 million is worth more than we think- we don't need to trade L.O. right now- especially without seeing how Bynum recovers- i mean if Bynum isn't himself- we may need some L.O. time at PF and Gasol at C- even though this is not ideal- imagine if we got rid of Odom and have yet to replace Turiaf- we would be very vulnerable up front.  

It'd be nice to pick up a SF that can play "D" but so far every person that had been rumored to the Lakers has been signed.  Matt Barnes signed with Phoenix, Najera signed with NJ, Posey signed with N.O., Kurt Thomas re-signed with the Spurs, Brent Barry signed with the Rockets, Richard Jefferson got traded to the Bucks, and off course the only remaining rumors are the Artest (unlikely because of the Kenny Thomas contract) and Marion (i hope there is some validity to that), (all the names listed above were rumored players that the Lakers were supposedly going after)...

i think the Lakers will make a move by the trade deadline- but are just waiting for the right deal to come along.

They Cannot afford them. its that simple.  Only move they can make is Odom for Artest or Odom+farmar for Deng

the Artest thing has died down cuz the Lakers wasn't willing to trade Odom nor take on Kenny Thomas's contract.

I mean I don't think there should be any panicking from the Lakers, cuz they do have a solid lineup next season, and they still have a mid-level exception which they can use to pick up a player as they go.
