I understand that I might have to give a lot to get this in return. I'm happy to wave the enlistment bonuses as long as i can get this benefit. Can it be done and if not for the Navy then where?

  1. Yes more than likley.. check to see if you get the G.I. Montgomery bill if you are going full time you will.. don't let your recriuter s***w you over they will its there job make sure to get the bill in the contract before you sign

  2. The Army has a 6 month college option that you can get on your reenlistment contract.  I would imagine that the Navy has the same.  What it entails if that you become a full time student for 6 months.  They pay you BAH/BAQ at the rate of an E-5.  You should be able to use your tuition assistance to cover almost everything and the BAH will pay for your housing.  Don't use your GI Bill unless you have to. It should always be your last option when looking for college funds.  There are many many grants as well that are available to you.  I would really recommend talking to your education center representative before you do anything though to find all available options.  The only thing you are responsible for during your 6 months of school are passing whatever the Navy does for a fitness test.  And you should still be eligible for a bonus as well as the college.  Bonuses are kind of entitlements not extras that you can get.  But it is the job of your career counselor to make you ineligible for a bonus if he/she can.  Good luck I hope this helps.  I know this is how the Army does it so like I said this should be a DoD wide thing.

  3. no Branch covers everything unless you attend one of the Academies or get a 4 year ROTC scholarship.

for enlisting, between TA, GI Bill and assorted  ways to test out like PACE and DANTES, you can conceivably get a large chunk covered, but no way would all expenses be 100% covered.

  4. In the Navy, you can take college courses.

The Navy will pay 80% of the tuition. Your paycheck will be far more than enough to cover: the rest of the tuition, books and stuff, as well as everything that you need to support yourself and a family.

I did it up through my M.A. degree
