Several days ago, I bought a bullet bottle from REI.

It's a really good bottle, but will the plastic inner cap used to seal the bottle leach chemicals?

  1. WillieD's answer is spot on!

  2. Contamination from BPE chemicals is a minor concern. The whole notion that plastic bottles are causing cancer has been blown way out of proportion. Chemical leaching really only happens when you microwave the bottles (after many times) and/or use detergents (over a long time) that react with the plastic.

Contamination from the Bullet Bottle shouldn't even be questioned. The bottle is mostly metal. You can't put it in the microwave (unless you want to fry your appliances) and cleaning the seal and lid with a mild detergent (or better...soap) will most likely have no effect on the plastic.

My suggestion to you would be to fill the bottle with a nice cup a joe, walk an hour into the woods, find a nice place to sip your brew and stop worrying about the ongoing war between the plastic companies and the aluminum companies. They both put out tons of "Fuzzy Math" statistics so consumers get cought up in some BS dilemna and waste time and money.
