  1. The last time was in 1991.  The Stanley Cup Finals began on May 15th and the Penguins finished off the North Stars in Game 6 on May 25th.

Of course......the playoffs started on April 3rd that year and they literally played every other night back then.

In fact, the Finals NEVER went into June years ago.  The 1992 Blackhawks-Penguins final was the 1st year that the Cup was awarded in June and has been ever since.

*Edit---"Like I'm telling you" -- Game 7 between the Oilers and Flyers in 1987 was played on May 30th.  May is a 31 day month.  So even though it went past midnight, it still would have been May when it was over.

*Edit ---  It sounds like I'm way off on the 87 Final sorry about that and Wikipedia actually was the source I used to verify that as I don't remember.  I was only 11 at that time and I wasn't the hockey fan I am now.  That, however, wasn't the question that was asked (just me adding incorrect information trying to support my answer).  I believe I am correct to say the 1991 Final was the last time the series ended in May.

    Your source is wrong

The NHL Guide and record book states game 7 of the 1987 Stanley Cup final was on May 31st in Edmonton (pg 241)

This website shows the game starting on May 31st

    http://www.shrpsports.com/nhl/result.php

And halfway through the 3rd Period, Bob Cole told Canada...............'If you're still awake in Ontario east.......we have hockey in June folks" (this is heard on the CBC VHS for the series)

The front page of Le Devoir du Montreal also proclaimed 'L'Hockey en juin" the next morning.....WITHOUT the final score (game ran past publication deadlines)

The Wikipedia main page also shows a May 31st date

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_Stanle...

The Internet Hockey Database also shows a May 31st date for game 7

    http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/playo...

Of course, if you just accessed this page

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986%E2%80%...

You might actually believe that it was the 30th

NEVER trust Wikipedia for information, especially when they give two pieces of conflicting information for the same data point.

ALL the NHL publications refer to the date of game 7 as a May 31st date.  Having seen the game myself, I vividly remember Cole's call about June...........except I was in Vancouver at the time and couldn't have cared less what time it was in Toronto

If you lived in the Eastern Time Zone, the first time the Stanley Cup was awarded in June was 1987.  The Stanley Cup was awarded at 12:46am EDT on June 1, 1987 (the game was a 9:30pm EDT start in Edmonton and ended after midnight on the East Coast)

  4. Last Year it was won on June 4th with the Ducks beating the Senators in Game 5, as for this year If the Pens don't stop the Tide, it will end on Saturday May 31st, If the Pens do win It will end in June this year too, Hopefully the Latter succeeds

  5. Well, it's May 27th now and there are 2 more games left before June begins...Which means that the RedWings MUST sweep the Pens in order for this to occur before June begins. So, I say no as I still think the Pens may steal one. As for the last time a team that's won in May, I'm not too sure either...
