  1. The people of Tamilnadu are beset with so many problems - the interstate rivers that are the mainstay of delta farmers, the acute power shortage, the spiralling prices, the unending unemployement in rural and urban side, etc

but the ruling party that formed the new govt is simply not looking into these at all.. they came to power by forming an alliance with several regional and few weak national parties and not due to the freebies they promised in their election manifesto.. but they are frittering away the state's resources on the issue of free TVs cooking gas etc to the poor who are reported to be selling them (having more pressing expenses as well as inab ility to pay the cable / gas refill charges)

just to show that they are working for the Tamil culture, they moved their allies in the central govt to declare Tamil as classical language and now declare Thai 1st (Jannuary 14) as the new Tamil New Year day.. they are not using their influence with the central govt to solve the more urgent issues of water and power.. what an hypocrisy..

people have more pressing problems as i said above but the govt is living in its own dream world.. As someone had pointed out people may not follow what the govt declares in these matters.. A sheer show of power that will only be in govt records..

  2. yes why not.................

  3. Yes. India being the biggest democratic country in the world is free to do what they feel is right. Rights and traditions can't be changed for 1 person. This is not the 2nd New Year. This is the true/actual New Year for the Tamilians.

  4. Too many cooks spoil the broth. Some people wants something to do>thereby they wants to become in the news.

  6. Our new year is on April 13th only,, One person cannot change the festival,,, it can be accepted by the public,,,  our 1st tamil month is Chithirai and ends with panguni(12th month),,,  chithirai is comes on april 14, in leap year it comes on april 13. pple say tamil new year as chithirai thiru naal, chithirai kani and so on,,, in that same month telugu pple are celebrating telugu new year(yugathi), thai month is for harvest month for farmers so pple say 'thai piranthal vali pirakkum',,,  some pple have superstitious,,, by changing the new year many things will be changed tat is panjangam, birth time,,,, v have to change the jaathagam,,, if pple follow thai month as new year means there is none other than stupidity,,,,, tats it

  7. I think most of them will not celebrate it because they dont want to change the tradition.
