  1. great britain uses the metric system, but still measures speeds in MPH

its just generally easier that way since speed limits have been in force since before decimilisation

  2. If you mean the metric system, eventually.

Being as how the vast majority of the world uses the metric system, and we technically already use it in pretty much ALL hard-science fields for cross-research, it's only in everyday normal lives is the US standard used here in the USA.

But, as another answer stated "probably not in my life time." People don't like change, and don't trust anything that's not already in place... even if it would avoid things like this:

Someone botched it, and put feet instead of using the metric system (like everyone else on the team used, and ALL of NASA) and the mars orbiter instead of orbiting mars, ended up slamming into it destroying the spacecraft.

  3. You mean will we ever convert to the metric system. I wish we would but I don't see that happening.

  4. Why should we?  We have a consistent system throughout the country.  We have no problem using the metric system when we go abroad, so why should foreigners have a problem when they come here?  Ireland converted to KPH, and millions of pounds  went down the drain changing all the road signs.  It's completely pointless.  Those areas that need to become metric will convert naturally.

  5. Probably not in my lifetime.
