it will hurt them from a bench (depth) perspective but if the young guns can come back healthy and contribute, they should be alright.  defensively they are fine but if 1 big bat gets hurt, ...trouble

They should be OK in the short run, but in another 3 weeks, it'll kill them; besides, they've got no bench.

Yes, from a depth perspective.

Right now with the regular lineup in,

Damon (DH)

Jeter (SS)

Abreu (RF)

A-Rod (3B)

Giambi (1B)

Cano (2B)

Melky (CF)

Molina (C)

Gardener (LF)

That leaves Betemit, Sexton, Christian, and Moeller on the bench. Not the bench the Yankees were planning on.

With Matsui, Posada, Wang, and  Hughes down for at least another 3-4 weeks the Yankees will really need some role players to step up.

The other side of the coin is... Will the return of 2-3 of these guys provide the team with a "shot in the arm" and propel them to the playoffs? If you get Matsui's bat back in the lineup at the end of August thats a pretty big boost! If Wang comes back firing the first week of September how confident will the team be going into the final month! Basically, if they play well without them, adding them will prove to be a large boost, if they keep their heads above water, and barely stay in it, they may be dissapointed.

Basically, they have to play like none of the players will return and hope for the best.

I agree with the iceman....the yankees are put in a tough position because if they make a trade and the players get healthy it was a waste of prospects...if they dont make a trade and the players dont get healthy then it was a mistake also.
