  1. No reason? Of course not. However, what appears to be no reason to you may seem to be a perfectly good reason to an alligator. Are you going to argue philosophy with an alligator?

  2. No crocodylian will attack without reason.

  3. 95% of all alligator attacks in Florida link back to feeding and enticement (not necessarily by the person who was attacked, but still). In 50 years alligators have been responsible for about 26 human fatalities. Dogs kill more people than this every year in our state. The last fatality for "no reason" was a woman who was canoeing out of juniper springs but got out of her canoe to snorkel... swimming in wilderness areas is not advisable... put yourself horizontal in the water and you're just another long shape and perhaps a territorial threat, and there's always the possibility that a large alligator will take offense. Be smart, be aware. If an alligator approaches you, it's time to find somewhere else to hang out. Don't feed them, dont' chuck rocks at them, don't take matters into your own hands.

If you encounter a bonafide nuisance alligator, contact the state's nuisance alligator program 866 392 4286

  4. To you it may seem there is no reason to attack but the alligator does not think like you do.  You are in its territory, its home.  You are lunch.  You are an intruder.  There are many reasons for a croc or an alligator, or any animal to attack.  When you are in the wild you can't just think of yourself.  You have to think of the animals.  What would you do if some one came into your home while you were there???

    Thats what I thought.
