  1. Considering the Army Corps of Engineers told everyone it would take 10 years to finish the repairs in Louisiana, I think California will recover faster.  What basis are you comparing the two?  The fires are because enviromental groups block the controlled buring to prevent forest fires (in nature, forest fires occur to help strengthen the flora and fauna, we destroy the natural order by interfering), and the people affected have fire insurance.  New Orleans people were un or under-insured and the state government was unable to help them.  I personally don't want my federal tax dollars going to crooks in the south who aren't rebuilding anything with the 50 billion they already received.

  2. of course it will

California is a swing state and Bush will make like he is concerned for the sake of the G O P

  3. Do you live in Malibu or New Orleans?  California has more money that Louisiana and the governer and mayor of the target city isn't a criminal who squandered taxpayer money in an effort to line the pockets of organized crime instead of maintaining the levee system.  California has a plan to rebuild and doesn't have to worry about non-existant police forces with ghost employees on the payroll to help maintain order.  New Orleans had an emeergency because the government didn't care about the people who lived there and waited until the last minute to ask for help.  You have no basis to compare the two incidents.

  4. Of course it will be.  Fire insurance is a standard requirement for houses, and the insurance companies will pay up, without worrying about whether the damage was caused by wind or flood.

The roads will be rebuilt because the local governments will step up and do it, without waiting for the feds to hold their hands.

Private companies and citizens will take iniative to get it done.  You'll see a building boom in just a few months - and given that the market is down for contractors and real estate, there won't be as much price gouging as you might expect if the market were at a boom level.

  5. It's all PR for Dubya...got nothing else between the big ears!

  6. Yes.

California has many advantages over Louisiana:

    Honest and effective local governments

    Mandatory fire insurance

A viable economy that generates a demand for housing

Our Governor made the request for federal assistance last Sunday.  The cities affected by the fires have already set up expedited procedures for issuing building permits to speed rebuilding.  The people affect by the fires tend to be middle-class people who have access to credit and are insured.

In about two years you will not be able to tell the fires happened.
