Will the arrival of Radamel Falcao end Didier Drogba’s career at Chelsea?
With the rumours linking FC Porto striker Radamel Falcao to English Premier League side Chelsea intensifying with every passing day, it makes one wonder what his arrival would mean for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044.
Since former FC Porto manager Andres Villas Boas took over as Chelsea manager, replacing Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti, there has been speculation that he will bring some of his players from the Portuguese club.
If that is indeed the case then the appointment of Andres Villas Boas as manager could very well mean the end of Drogba’s career at the London club.
The 33-year-old Ivory Coast international has been at Chelsea since 2004 and has played an important part in the Blues success during that period.
He has undoubtedly gone on to establish himself as one of the best strikers in the English Premier League and Europe during his time with Chelsea.
Drogba transferred to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2004 from Ligue 1 side Marseille for a fee of £24 million under the management of Jose Mourinho.
In his seven seasons at the London club, Drogba has made a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 306 appearances in all competitions, with 144 goals.
Drogba’s powerful build and pace make him one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League and the Ivorian has benefitted greatly from his natural abilities.
He has won the English Premier League Golden Boot twice, in 2007 and 2010, and has now reached the legend status at Chelsea.
However, he is on the wrong side of 30, which could urge Villas Boas to find a suitable replacement for him and offload him in the summer transfer window.
Before the Portuguese manager was confirmed as manager, the management at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 offered him a contract extension, which the striker did not accept.
Now that Villas Boas is in charge at the club, he will most likely want to bring in younger strikers, which will mean Drogba’s departure.
Villas Boas has already identified his target, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Radamel-Falcao-c30276, the 25-year-old striker, who served under him at FC Porto in the highly successful 2010-2011 season.
Falcao played a big role with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 claiming an impressive four trophies in that season, including the Primeira League and the UEFA Europa League.
Falcao scored 16 goals in 22 appearances in the domestic league and found the back of the net 18 times in 16 appearances in Europe.
Falcao has amazing statistics, maybe even better than Drogba, but would the Colombian striker be able to adjust in the English Premier League?
Bringing him in to partner Fernando Torres could be a big risk that could back fire on the young Portuguese manager.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 for a record breaking fee of £50 million.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international did not quite live up to the expectations the heavy transfer fee had placed on him, scoring just one goal in the latter half of the season.
In the end, then manager Ancelotti had to resort to depending on Drogba for goals, with the Ivorian doing well to deliver.
With too many strikers already present at Stamford Bridge, Andres Villas Boas will have some tough decisions to make in this summer’s transfer window.
