Will the better quality S-Video cord produce better than a cheaper one?

  1. Not really if all you need is 6'. There is little difference between high priced and cheap generic cables at that distance. Distances 50' and greater need better cables.


  2. Technically speaking, a PROPER S-Video cable will produce better video than a cheap one. It is perhaps more likely that a cheap one will be made incorrectly, but there's no guarantee about either.

    There are a couple of important issues in an S-Video cable. Being analog, it has to be nicely shielded or you can get noise in your image. And being high speed, the two signal routes (Y and C) need to be of a proper impedance. If the shielding is weak, you may see noise on-screen; if the impedance is off, you may see "ghosting" of pixels, which occurs when a rapidly changing signal "rings".
