Question:

Will the black around my pom's jaw ever go?

When I got my wolf sable pom 2 months ago, the breeder said his adult coat will be coming through and the black under his mouth will go.

Now he is 10 months, his adult coat is still coming through, but the black hasnt gone at all!

He is from showlines, but I read a pom being showed cannot have any other color marking for example black.

Does anyone know if it was disappear with time?

Thank you :)

  1. It's possible, I guess... but if he's already 10 months old, I don't think it will. I'm sorry. Does it look to be lightening up some? Just because he's from showlines, doesn't mean he's show quality.. I'm sorry.

  2. It may or may not disappear with time.  Who cares?  You've still got a great pet.  Were you planning to show him?  If so, you should have started by now.  Not all dogs from show lines are going to become show dogs.  Some have insignificant "flaws" that keep them from competing successfully, such as a tail set that's a tiny bit too low, a bit of disallowed coloring, etc.  These dogs are sold as pets.  Pets are not meant to be bred as it is by competing in shows that the best breeding stock is selected.  Wait and see how he looks when all of his adult coat has come in.  It's really not important, though.

  3. I would have to see a picture to be able to help you. The dog may not be a wolf sable.

Share a picture and I can help you.

  4. A wolf sable color is a lt grey undercoat ( not cream ) with a darker grey coat usually with black tips

One of our pom pups we purchased was registered Wolf Sable. That is until her adult coat came in.  She is now a beautiful cream and white. But she still has the grey under coat on her forehead and under her jaw.

Even if these pups were registered Wolf Sable most will change color.  And if by any chance someone tries to tell you that a wolf sable colored pup is rare. Do NOT believe them.

Can you post a pic of your pup?
