  1. No I don't think they will benefit from sitting out the tri-nations.  I think that New Zealands idea was the best with sitting the players out from the super 14 to freshen and condition them, then give them games against quality opposition to fine tune the combinations and game plans.  I think by sitting out the Tri-nations the Boks have missed an opportunity since it'll be too late to try and get their combinations right against the minnows of the round robin and by the time it gets to the 1/4 finals it's too late because if your combos don't work and you lose.....you're out.  It will be close between New Zealand and South Africa.  Australia will only get there if the ref send off one of the opposition like their last 2 wins in the tri-nations (scored 2 trys against NZ while they had 14 men and 1 try against a second string South African team while they were down to 14 men, both games they won by less than a converted try, and that was with home field advantage)

  2. I most certainly think so. They can do with a little bit of resting.

  3. I'm sure rest was needed but they are professional athletes. They should be able to back up and if I was a SA supporter I would be worried that in the end the points might make the difference from a win and a loss.

In terms of world cup performance I think it will have very little effect.

  4. there are too schools of thought on this the first being resting them will keep them fresh and injury free so they can perform at there peak come September.

the other being that the only thing that prepares you for rugby is playing rugby.

I tend to agree with that because i train in the off season 6 times a week and rest on Sunday and come the first game you are still sucking the oxygen big time 60 mins into the game as well as this your body is not conditioned to the knocks if you are not playing and it takes that little bit longer to recover. Having said that mind you these guys have the best sports medicine minds looking after them and they will be doing full contact in training so there bodies would be conditioned so it makes it a tough call and as always if the boks do well everyone will say it was the right idea if it goes wrong then people will say it was the wrong idea. Maybe they are resting them because if they do loose them then there is no one who can step up and take there place on such a big stage.

So in my opinion they should be playing as it will benefit them and the team more.

  5. Fresh Yes World Beaters NO!

Aussie Aussie Aussie!!! Enough Said Mate.

  6. I think so. The juniors had a decent enough game against the Wallabies on saturday. Anyway winning the Tri Nations doesn't guarantee you of winning the WC. Most of the time the TN champs have lost out in the WC.

  7. The boks are idiots resting their star players. They will have no match practice and the bad media coverage will have serious psychological effects. Does New Zealand rest their star players?
