I would really like to hear the opinions because I'm a huge Canes fan but I just don't know about this season. I was shocked when Carolina traded Eric Cole. I know people didn't give him much credit but I say he was and still is one of the best power forwards in the NHL. Big loss in my books. Plus many other reasons but I want to hear what you think.

  1. It will be close. I think they will be somewhere in the 7-10 spot along with Buffalo, Boston, and Tampa. I think it will come down to just a few points whether they are in or out.

  2. Carolina just barely missed the playoffs last year. Carolina gave up the 3rd most goals in 2007-2008, which means Cam Ward needs to be as good as he was in 2006 if the 'canes are gonna make the playoffs.

  3. I think they've made their blueline much more mobile and better at passing the puck which is what they needed.  I think they have a shot at spots 6-8 in the East.

  4. It will be close. From about 6-12 the east is really close. If Ward plays like he did in the 2006 playoffs, they probably make it. If he plays like he did last year, they don't/

  5. No The Rent-A-Canes of 06' are long gong and young stars such a Staal and Ward might have had a little too much success too early.

Washington runs away, Tampa (Non Kool-Aid Drinker) will improve non the less and even having the luxury of the #1 & 2 doormats of the East won't save this spoiled franchise from a 3rd straight early spring

  6. I think they'll end up around the 7th or 8th seed... most of their roster is similar to when they won the cup.. they got what it takes to be a great team once again, it'll be interesting to watch..

  7. i think the streak will stop more into the season

  8. I am a huge Canes fan as well.  I wasn't shocked about the Cole trade at all, you know that our weak spot was definitely defense (especially with Wallin and Kaberle there), so we could afford to trade away one of our guns up front.  Our offense is still pretty good, and remember we were quite hampered with injuries last season.  Williams, Staal, Whitney, Brind'Amour can all easily score 20 goals, and a maybe a few more but with more question marks (Samsonov, Ruutu, etc.)  Ward knows that if he isn't at his A game this season, there will be someone by the name of Michael Leighton waiting to take his #1 spot.  The defense has changed the most.  Corvo was amazing, Seidenberg was the biggest bang for your buck until he got injured, and now we have Pitkanen from Edmonton.  There's a lot of questions to be answered, but I am confident that the boys can finally make it back into the postseason this year.  Our biggest competition will be Washington and Tampa Bay.  I'm not sure about Tampa Bay, because with all the new players coming in, chemistry will be something worthwhile to discuss.  If we don't take the division title, then I'd expect us to be somewhere between 6th to 8th.

  9. There division is weak, but tightly packed, but i  predict that 2 teams come out of the south east division, either carolina, tbl, or washington, of those teams, i think washington is most likely to make it, and it really depends on how TB holds there d down, if they do a good job, most likely the canes will be right back to the #9-10 seed, if TBs d plays mediocre, then the canes will probably make the playoffs
