Will the concept of race (racism) exist in the future ?

I've decided that the concept of race does not exist. It is a societal construct not a biological one. We all as human beings have the same origin, we all have the same bones, organs, blood etc. Our different looks, features are all just influenced by the environments. Our appearances simply representations of the areas we descend from. Do you think it will exist in the future, forever or will our thinking mentality evolve and be rewired to see all people as human beings period ? Our appearances have adapted and change for thousands of years, in the next thousand or so will our brains be so accustomed to different appearances of humans that it won't matter ?

  1. Sibling rivalry exists when people have almost identical DNA.

Races of people have evolved from the original humans but they exist now, you can't make them disappear. Individual humans are ok but collectively there is a problem. People generally like to group together with others of similar appearance and to feel superior to others who are different

  2. I think there will always be some form of  -ism, but it probably won't be based on skin color.  It's in our nature to have a sense of kinship with a subgroup of individuals, to compete for limited resources and make our own group more successful.

  3. Well, if science and technology continues to develop, then no.

Future world will probably be filled with things like non-human intelligences (Artificial Intelligences, intelligent software agents, intelligent robots and androids) with wildly varying body shapes and sizes. THINGS will have intelligence.

People will be adapted to different environments with genetic engineering, people will morph their bodies pretty much as they wish  - changing your own skin color on the fly will probably become fairly easy at some point. Humans will merge with their technologies and become cyborgs (man-machine hybrids).

In that kind of a world... It would be a pretty hard thing to be a racist as we now understand it. Most modern-day racists would immediately just die of sheer horror if dropped into such a world!

  4. people will always invent reasons to hate, to kill eachother.  it is an evolutionary tactic.  maybe not intelligent in the long run, but if everybody got along, this planet would have been overpopulated a long time ago.  if racism dissapeared, another reason to hate would appear.  as it fades, people invent other reasons to kill.  politics, religion, war.  it will never stop.  it may get better.  it may get worse.  anything is possible.

  5. not if we're all beige ;) lol

  6. It may or may not exist.  We can hope for a Roddenberry future but we must also act to ensure it with education, not violence.

  7. Individualism. Reject all the stereotypes, every since person is a separate individual.

    That is my philosophy anyway.
