  1. *laugh* I love how people assume oil prices are an American problem.   Not hardly.

World trade worked.  Globalization is lifting billions of people out of poverty.  Now they can afford cars and guess what they want.  Gas!

Now if I recall, world trade was a conservative idea.  The liberals were protesting the WTO in Seattle.  Remember?

So Mr. Militia, shoot all the biodiesel-driving bicycling anti-car liberals you want, won't help.  They're not using gas.  Who is, is our close allies in India and our allies-of-convenience in China.

China is doing a better job going green than we are, because they are just building their society, so they can build it green.  We are mostly stuck in our ways, California notwithstanding.

  2. americans?

    aware of their environment?

    are you blind?

the only thing you see around here is "let's drill for oil everywhere."

"it's those crummy Saudis, that refuse to give us oil for free."

"it's part of those crummy liberals global warming conspiracy"

we demand a tax cut, and charge our children for it.

    we steal from our children.

and you think we'd care about the environment?

    *sigh*

  3. That's the hope, but who knows if it will ever happen? I think that the falling dollar, and resulting increase in oil prices, will cause Americans to cut back on buying clothes and movie tickets before oil, and if things get really bad, then fast food will be the next to go. Why do you think that the judicial system is set up to revoke driving licenses to punish people for non-driving crimes? It is because Americans do not consider themselves 'free' unless they are allowed to buy every single imaginable tool to waste natural resources.

  4. The higher the price of oil goes, the more I think of forming a militia, that has a sole purpose of taking back America from the communists that populate the environmentalists movement.

  5. I would say it makes some people more aware. We got tired of paying $3.00 a gallon for gasoline 7 months ago and bought 2 cars that run on natural gas (methane) instead. We love them! Natural gas is much, much cheaper than gasoline and way better for the environment. We love to drive down the road, knowing that we aren't using a single drop of gasoline or foreign oil. We use all-American natural gas instead! So, you could say that at least some Americans are aware enough to change their ways. I believe it will take much higher gasoline prices to make most Americans look for alternatives because most people resist change.
