Now waiters are to be paid the minimum wage and restaurants are taking their tips to make up for it, will waiters change from friendly, tip seekers into surly sods who aren't going to get your money anyway?

  1. I am in the catering trade and I think every waiter/waitress deserve any tip they get...it's very hard dealing with the public especially those that come out now and again for a meal and think the waiting staff should pander to all their needs.

  2. Here in Ireland we have had the minimum wage act since 2000.

Tips are at your own discretion, for example I spent two hours in the hairdressers today, had a head and shoulder massage, got a coffee and a danish decent trim, felt good and after passing over the requisite amount of spondulicks noticed they didn't have a 'tip' jar and enquired as to why not, and was told that the tips go to the 'back pocket'

At 80+  Euro I decided that the 'tip' was better spent in my 'back pocket'

  3. you bet ye.

  4. I don't agree with tipping anyway.  No one tips me for my job so why should waiters get tips for doing what they are supposed to be doing.  It is the job. Also most restaurants already charge a 'service charge' on top of the bill so why tip as well?

But they should get at least minimum wage.  I'm shocked that they work for less anyway.

  5. Will we notice a difference?

  6. This isn't anything new, and thankfully most restaurants don't do this.  With any luck this will be made illegal soon and the waiting staff will do exactly what they always do - just enough to get a tip...

  7. I don't see how that could work. if the waiter is horrendous, I'm going to tell the manager. enough people will tell the manager and thus, the waiter is fired. they hire a new one. HE is a jerk, and so I tell the manager again. more people rat him out. people stop going there because the service sucks. restaurant goes out of business. no one gets paid.

  8. Most of the one's I've met are surly sods anyway.

But I will slip a tip directly to a nice waiter/waitress.

  9. i am a server and we get paid 2.52   2.65 per hour.  when min. wage went up servers wages did not go up.  At least not in Michigan.  The only thing for servers that meant was we had to make more money to make it closer to min. wage.  some days are good for servers and some of the best servers sometimes do not even get 15 % of the total bill in which we have to claim.  Servers are to claim 15% of all their sales at the end of their shift whether they make it or not.  That is what they are to claim they made.  Some people tip well and other people do not tip or tip very little.  I personally have had very good servers and I have had servers that I feel should have maybe been into a diferent profession.  As I am sure all have had.

As far as your question I have not heard of this.  I personally would not tip very well as I would feel the server is the one who deserves it.  Not the business itself.  It is hard work.  I enjoy my job.  But you need to always have a smile no matter the circumstance and treat the people well.  I like to treat everyone as if they were my own family.  so I always give my best.  I do it with the hopes of making over and above the income I would at a min wage job.  I would not if I had a choice work at such a restaurant as you talk of if I had a choice.

Service may change as then it is just a job not a job with a chance to make more.

  10. Not if they like their job

  11. There's a fly in my soup!
