Will the discoloration from sunburn peeling even out? and how long does it take?

Ok, I went to the pool with sun screen on but over time it got washed off after few hours I guess then I got sunburn on my shoulder/back and now It's peeling it has a pretty big light skin spot from peeling, I'm wondering how and when will they even out? >-<
