  1. The earth wont be destroyed, just turned into a h**l hole, where everyone and everything wished they were dead, if they're not dead already.

will we stop using fossil fuel... no, even when oil runs dry, well simply start burning other sources of fuel.

Converting to alternatives? depends on which type, some are even more environmentally damaging, and others merely pollute further upstream in the process. for example) using electricity to power our devices, the chemicals in the battery pack is not too friendly to the environment in disposal and leaks, plus the electricity from the socket is generated in coal burning generators. how environmentally friendly is burning huge amounts of coal?

    wind turbine kills birds.

tidal turbines, kills fish? (no studies yet, but unless they designed it so the fish are prevented from going into the mechanism. it's bound to kill a few fish)

    nuclear - kaboom!

solar, with further research and development this could be the best alternative, provided we don't darken the skies and create acid rain that will damage the panels.

  2. You assume the government has alternatives. I don't agree with this assumption. That would mean there is a pact between all the other countries scientists and politicians and our to keep alternatives out of the market. Even though many other countries were in an energy crises long before we were. At this time there is no Magic Alternative available that could reduce the use of fossil fuels to the extent needed to eliminate pollution from these sources, except maybe Nuclear Power Energy, which environmentalists destroyed for this country in the 70's and 80's. Other countries like Japan and France now produce the majority of their power from Nuclear.

Wind, Solar, Hydro, and conservation all work, but some are very unreliable because they all depend on nature which is never constant and not available at times. Using more of these where they work best will help, but not eliminate the problem.

The problem is not government, it is a growing population demanding MORE, MORE and at the same time we want it cheap and never Nuclear.

I blame the irresponsible organizations like Green this and Green that, who took away our most promising alternative when engineers and scientists were just beginning to advance Nuclear Power to the next level, and set us back 50 years.

  3. If u want me to help Gore to rob from the poor I will not. As far as running out of fossil fuel ,sorry but we will never run out as long as plants take in CO2 and give us the O2. The plants keep the C to make there food which will eventually turn to more fossil fuel. The earth is a good recycle.

  4. The Earth will be ok. It may be very different to what we know and wont support 6 billion of us. Burning all the fossil fuel is putting back what was there many years ago. Maybe the laying down of these reserves and limestone, cooled the Earth in the first place!

  5. We're never going to be completely independant from fossil fuels, but what we CAN do is use a majority of renewable energy. That is, wind, water, etc.

It's not the sort of thing you're going to just suddenly change - there needs to be a steady move to renewable energy as opposed to fossil fuels or nuclear.

  6. That's what I'm beginning to think. I think a storm like the one in the movie The Day After Tomorrow will wipe out humanity. Even if we stop using fossil fuels right now, global warming will continue to increase for about another 30 years! The only reason we will stop using fossil fuels is because we will all be dead.

  7. No, the Earth will go on without us.

Give me a good enough reason to save you and I will.  First I need a good enough reason.

  8. The earth is 4.8 billion (BILLION) years old.  Man has been around for a few hundred thousand.  We can't kill the earth and we won't be around when it "dies."

The earth will probably be destroyed by the sun ceasing to exist.  And by 'be destroyed,' I mean it will turn into a monster asteroid, capable of hitting other planets.  Without the sun's energy, whatever's on this planet will die, but the earth itself won't.

Mammalian species only last about one million years.  The earth is going to exist for several billion more.  Do the math.

  9. The Earth won't die.  Neither will this wipe out Man.

But the way we use fossil fuels has a potential to cause enormous economic harm and some deaths through global warming.  We do need to work hard on alternative energy right now.

Exaggerating the problem doesn't help.  You don't have to, the reality is bad enough.  See:
