  1. The two rely on one another. They now have some evidence that our abstract reasoning - underpinning our intellectual development - came from living in a society (information not dying away but being passed on, finding new ways to communicate) etc. So when one develops, so does the other.

  2. Social evolution was a theory put forth by early theorists who believed that all human culture was at some stage in a cultural evolution, with the aristocrats being at the most modern  and "savages" at the other extreme. Intellectual evolution  implies that through evolution our intelligence has been linear and on the rise, which may not be the case. Remember, that evolution is about random changes in DNA which are amplified through a population through natural selection. Changes in intellect and society do not consititue evolution

  3. The seconds answer is probably talking about evolution in the strict sense of natural selection and physically improving due to natural selection.

but there are many kinds of evolution if you use the word loosely. there is evolution of language... for example English evolved from Latin, and so did many other European languages.

Humans (well most of us in modern societies anyway) have socially improved, our zietgeist has changed, for example slavery is over, and animal cruelty to animals is looked at worse than it was before, basically, our society is striving to become more kind.

I dont think our brains have physically improved over the last 4 million years when humans started walking the earth, and i dont think humans will live to see that time when we do physically improve.

We are always gaining knowledge, and we are always socially evolving, but not in the strict natural selection sense.
