  1. It could very well be the last manned fighter developed.  The price of procurement of fighter aircraft has snowballed over the decades to the point that it was predicted by a certain year the whole air force budget would buy two aircraft.  They have tried to reverse this trend since the F-16.  By the time the F-22 is ready to be replaced in thirty or forty years increases in computer power will likely mean it's successor will likely be unmanned or the pilot will not actually be aboard.

  2. No, there will be more such as the yf-23 they have not made it a fighter yet the still have a ew problems to fix and the f-18 is not the jet going to replaced by the f-35 the f-35 is going to replace the a-10 in 2010

  3. Its likely, but there are some factors that may ultimately keep the human in the loop.

First thing, UAV frequencies have a fixed bandwidth which limits the total number airborne at one point, that will have to be fixed and it is a great hurdle.

Secondly, UAV's are easy prey and may not be able to survive in a real combat environment, where maneuvering and fast thinking save the aircraft.

Thirdly, UAV's are expensive, and are easily destroyed. Even Cavemen have shot these things down.

I think that we will return to simplicity in the future, but not in a good way. The only way to overcome many of these systems is pure sacrificing human life to overwhelm and defeat a weapons system.

  4. I doubt so. There will be more and more unmanned aircrafts, but it won't completely take over in the foreseeable future, say maybe a couple of centries. Manned aircrafts shall still play a vital role in warfare. Just like the foot soldiers and infantries, that has been around since the start of history.

  5. Don't think so!

We will still need maned fighter aircraft for those close air support strikes.

  6. Could Be

  7. No one actually knows for definite but there is a fair chance that the F35 may be the last manned military fighter. Military transport aircraft as well as civilian airliners shall most likely still have a flight deck. Civilian passengers most likely will not want a computer in charge of their lives any time in the near future. Militaries around the world are interested in computer controlled fighter aircraft that are controlled form a screen back at the base. the reason being that's the aircraft can be shot down and no lives are lost.

  8. Supposedly, between the f-22 and the f-35 the u.s is pretty well set in its military aircraft for the near future.
