Will the future between Australia and Aboriganals be a good one?

It always astounds me how these questions relating to Aboriginal people are posed by non-Aboriginal people.  

It just goes to show how ingrained the culture is of Australia, particularly 'white' australia, who pontificate and ponder the identity, morals, motives and perogatives of Indigenous Australians, without looking within themselves and asking 'why do I think that this question needs to be asked!'

Prior to the 1850's there was a great deal of promise in the relations between the two people, but soon afterwards, and for over 117yrs 'white' government and 'white' people have dictated the role that Aboriginal people play in the development of this country.  More often than not it was a de facto 'master/slave' relationship, with generations being taught their superiority over another group of people.

As for the future?  

Those who do not learn from the past will be doomed to repeat it!

I really hope so. It would be great if it could. I'm from Tasmania and there are no full blood Tasmanian aboriginals left which is so sad.

We, the decendants of those that were hurt and those that did the hurting have been left with the mess they caused. They still hurt and we are ashamed but we hurt to because there is nothing we could have done, we weren't around then. So I guess what we have to do is work towards accepting one another and build a better future for everyone than what has been offered.

The future between Australia and the Aboriginals? they will always be part of the country, no one can take that away.

I hope so, but everyone will have to make an effort to understand everyone else.  The current habit of confrontation and mistrust, by too many participants in the debate on all sides, will not help anything.
