Question:

Will the game run if I copy and pasted the program files?

Okay recently I decided to restore my laptop to factory settings. And as you might know that erases everything from the hard drive. So I'm backing up my files and when I was trying to backup my Sims 2 files as fate would have it, I lost my original Sims 2 disc. So now the problem is that I have all the expansion discs but not the original Sims 2 disc. My question is if I compressed the Sims 2 directory and pasted it afterwards into the program files, will the game run? Since the original game will not be able to read the expansion saved files, will there be installation complication when I try to install the expansions? Do I need to copy and paste the registry files too?

  1. probably not, cause there are windows registry files that the installer writes to your registry, unless you knew exactly what to write its impossible..

if you wanna try to do it, email me and ill tell you what is in my registry because i have the game as well.

if you lost your disc i would try to borrow one from someone just to install and give back thats all you need it for, to play without cd just go to gamecopyworld.com and download the no-cd patch and you wont require one to play.

the original game im pretty sure is $20 or less..

  2. It might not run, The sims 2 game saves data on the system registry, which it might check before running the game. its a 50% chance it will work. some games verify that data is written in the registry before running. Try Rapidshare to get the full Installation again. Type Rapidshare search on google.com and go to any of the sites it lists. then search sims 2.rar, or sims2.iso.

  3. sorry to say that it will not, when you install a program, it gets listed in the windows registry, and gets all the config files put in to win32 folders, unless you know a decent share of coding for the registry and exact places in the win32 folder of the files this will not work, BTW just to show the expertise needed to code the registry and have it not corrupt your os, ive been a coder and software designer for 3 years and am going to college for software engineering, and im just able to write working scripts., look on amazon for a used copy of the game, or better yet if you origionally owned and purchased the game in the first place DL a copy from a torrent site, this is not illegal because you had a disk and now your just replacing it.

  4. It might work.

Every time you install a thing, it enters some registry entries.

Go to your game folder, if it has some registry entry kind of file, double click it and then press enter to enter registry, then your game will work.

  5. No

A program (the game) must be  installed.  Trying to figured out all the little pieces and parts that a program places around your computer is an impossible task.

If you don't have all the disks than I would suggest looking on eBay or CraigsList or something.  Impossible without.
