Will the government threaten you or try 2 buy you out if you invent part that increases fuel economy on cars?

Like if you invent a part of an engine that increases fuel economy by 20 time over, will they stop you from marketing the product?

your problem will most likely not come directly from the government, but from the industry you are trying to compete with. if they cannot buy you out, it will be in their best interests to silence you by making frustrating you efforts to develop and market your technology. one way is to use the media to spread untruths about your invention or even you personally,  another is to force you into expensive legal battles knowing they have more money to spend than you do.

at the end of the day, however, big business will e supported by the courts and the politicians who appoint the judges because they run for office and a re-elected in campaigns paid for by the companies you are threatening.  

popular support, while hard to get, is your only real weapon and it will take a lot of effort. that's where your belief in your idea and commitment to the change it will produce will be tested and hopefully won.

I see you have no answers. Too many people afraid of being politically correct. One way to make sure you get your invention gets  produced, is to have it fully developed first. Then have it developed in a country that WILL make it happen, after getting a world wide patten for it. That way, you are MAKING PEOPLE COMPETE. Then you publicise your product a heck of a whole lot. Once something has become widely know, even the government can't keep a lid on it. Publicity is also protection. No one will want to make a martyr out of you, once the secret is out. There is a lot of power in publicity. So don't be afraid of taking a stand and create something you believe in.  Who needs government anyways. We got computers. Now if they took those away from us too, we,d be in trouble for sure. Who knows don't be surprised if.....So make all the use of it while you still can.

Yes. Some cars can actually go up to 80 miles per gallon of gas, but the Government doesnt allow that.

I don't know about the government, but the oil industry has always done that in the past.  After all, increasing the efficiency of a gas engine will only reduce revenues and profits an oil company takes in.  Just look at the huge profits E x x o n has earned.  I think last quarter it was something like $10 billion.

True story.

In the early 1990s  a man, here in Perth Western Australia, called Ralph Sarich invented 'The Orbital engine'. It had a rotating engine which

- reduced emmissions

- thus increased efficiency and  increased distance per gallon

The government did not  do any-thing nasty to him they just did not help

-they  did not give planning permission for his factory

-they did not give him tax breaks

The local media  did not help, but suggested he go overseas.

He went to Ford, they bought the patent but don't use it in cars.

Eventually Sarich went to China and sold  the idea  for boat engines.

He is now  a  millionaire in boat industry. China is trying to reduce some of it's environmental mistakes.

His own country Australia did not help him

I bought some of his shares, but had to sell them before they lost money.

My daughter still has some 'Orbital' shares, just in case. She began an ENVIRONMENTAL share portfolio back in the 1980s before most people had thought of such things; now her share portfolio makes lots of money for her

But the government could have had similar  advantages

Nowadays you post it on the web far and wide.  Geeks will ravenously copy it and spread the idea all around the world.  The government of the USA may try to suppress the idea, but the government of Brazil won't.  

They cannot suppress an idea which gets 20x better fuel economy.  It will take flight if it works, the trouble is it DOESN'T work which is why it hasn't been built.  I dare you to prove me wrong.

As for patents, DON'T, they will sink your idea.

As for 80 mpg cars, you're talking about microcars and nobody in America wants to drive them.  Two sizes up from microcars are the Geo Metro and Ford Aspire which got 40-ish MPG, and they're not even made anymore.  You cannot buy a 40 MPG car in America anymore, except for a few hybrids.
