Will the govt continue to issue me forbearances since I am poor and not working in my profession?

and making only 10 per hour.Have lost interest in nursing since I lost by beloved daughter.They have issued me two years in a row

  1. Forbearances are normally limited to 3 years total per borrower.  Economic Hardship deferments up to 3 years, and Unemployment deferments up to 3 years.  You could possibly get up to 9 years between these different options, but eventually you must start making progress on repaying your loans.

    To get a lower monthly payment you may want to speak to your lender about different repayment plans such as Income Sensitive repayment, or the new Income Based Repayment program.  These can help out in the short term while you are making little money.  However, keep in mind that these repayment plans are the costliest to the borrower because they will accrue more interest over the life of the loan.  

    I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter.  Hopefully, in time you can move on and perhaps go back to the profession you studied for.  Good luck!
