Question:

Will the hole in my tongue close up after removing the barbell for 4 hours?

I have had my tongue pierced for about four years now and I have a job interview tomorrow that is going to run for approximately four hours.

If I take my barbell out for this long, will I be able to get it back in or will the hole have started to heal over by then?

I have heard the tongue heals very fast in these cases.

  1. I've had my tongue pierced for about 5 years and within the first 6 months to a year, yes that would be a concern. However, after this amount of time, it will be fine. I've left mine out for days/weeks at a time. when you get ready to put back in dip it in a thin, thin layer of vasoline and it should slide in with no problem. there are spacers you can get also. they come in clear and the top looks like the head of a nail and there is a small clear ball that goes on the underside. You could look at that if you have time. If not, you should be fine for 4 hours. Hope you get the job! Good Luck!

  2. How long have you had it pierced? I would say it wont completely close, but when I would take mine out for interviews, and then forget to put it back in, a few hours later I had to really push it through, it hurt a little. And then the next day its so uncomfortable! Or when I put an 8 in my tongue from a 12, god it felt like I got it pierced all over again lol. You should be fine it just might be a little toughh to get it back in. Or you can buy a clean stud with a flat top like you know the back of a labret barbell? Its flat like that against your tongue, so it shouldn't be noticable.

  3. it might, but then again it might not.

people's bodies heal differently and the tongue is no exception to this.

if you're concerned, you could buy a retainer, but if you're having to talk a lot sometimes retainers will slip out of place, which kinda defeats the purpose. it would be better for you to get at least one clear acrylic ball to wear on the top of your tongue. works the same and won't be seen.

  4. It might do. But I probably wouldn't take it out for a job interview if I was worried. Most people wouldn't notice.

Try and find a retainer? Though it could be short notice...

  5. No it wont i have had mine pierced for only a yr. and i took mine out for 3 days straight ! it wont grow up if u have had it pierced over a yr.!!!

  6. There's one way to see: try it now. Take it out and check how hard it is to replace the jewelery after each hour

  7. Yeah my tongue closed up in minutes even after several years. It really depends on how quickly you specifically heal. But yeah you should get a retainer if you are worried about it, or just smaller jewelry that is less noticable. Just don't stick out your tongue at your interviewer and you should be fine.

  8. you can use a plug

they sell them at a lot of places

    and they are invisible

  9. Yea it might close up... but you've had it for 4 years so maybe not. I would just get a retainer (a clear flat on top barbell) and use that... cuz you would probably have to wear it if u get the job anyway

  10. Most likely, yes. I have a fiend who had his for years and it would be almost gone after an hour out.. He had to push it through the skin to get it back in. After 4 hours i'd say you'd even have a tough time finding the location of the hole to try and push through the skin. HOWEVER i know another girl who would leave hers out about 6 hours every night (so her parents didn't find out) and she had a fairly easy time finding the hole and pushing it through again.

Try switching to a pink or red ball on top if you have one or a retainer.

They also now say that if you have facial piercings its best to leave them in for interviews, just make sure you wear small, plain jewellry. kind of downplay it but don't take it all out. It shows who you really are, and your employer can always ask you to take it out. That is, unless they specifically asked you not to wear any body jewellry to the interview. If you think they've noticed it you can always say you're willing to remove it or put in a retainer during work hours if they wish.

But i guess unless you've tried taking it out for that long before, now would not be a great time to try it.
