hurricane dean is a lvl 4 it is likely to probably soon become a lvl 5 hurricane. the path predicted should go near or probably hit cancun. but thats a predicition. sometimes they're not right and sometimes the hurricanes change direction, u never know. just stay tune with the weather channel.

Latest reports are that the hurricane will hit 200 miles south of cancun. I was due to travel out there on the 20th and am now going on the 24th. Whoever said get in land is misguided as once its hit the peninsula it will head inland anyway.

Cancun and the strip were desimated by Wilma and were rebuilt bigger and better, Mexicans rely on the resort for revenue and will divert the army into tourist areas asap to rebuild should they take a hit.

i keep hearing different stories..first i hear that its supposed to hit directly on cancun .now im hearing that its supposed to hit somewhere below  cancun and that cancun will just be getting alot of rain for that day  im actually supposed to be going there this wed for a week..we're waiting till tomorrow afternoon to decided if we should cancel or not ..if  it doesnt cause alot of damage and we can still flly there then we're going..so hopefully nothing major happens

The last time I checked the news it said it will be there Tues morning. Its a category 3 storm which means 111 to 130 mph winds. That means falling trees, flooding, 9-12 ft storm surge.

Do NOT watch the weather channel!

They are still saying this hurricane WILL hit Cancun and as every minutes goes by, it looks less and less likely.

The hurricane is a Cat 4 at the moment and needs another 5 mph of windspeed to become a cat 5 - it is forecasted to hit the Yucatan Peninsula to the south (close to Belize/Chtumal).

What does this mean for Cancun - tropical strom force winds only and minimal damage.

What does this mean for my vacation - once the airport reopens, you can jump on a plane and come to Cancun and enjoy your vacation as planned.

The hotels will need a couple of days to unpack everything but that's it.

If you are booked from 25th onwards you should make calls and prepare to go.
