the LHC will be turned on september 10. will it create black holes and destroy the planet just so some stupid scientist can prove god is fake? what are your predictions?

  1. It won't destroy us and it has nothing to do with proving that God is fake.  Contrary to popular opinion, not all scientists are atheists.  Many believe that the Bible tells what God did, and science tells how he did it.

We have had particle colliders for years.  This one is just bigger and will do more.  They plan to try to create micro black holes.  These will only exist for a fraction of a second, then will disappear through Hawking Radiation.  The Event Horizon of one of these black holes will be so tiny, and they will exist for such a short time, that there will be no chance for anything to be pulled in.

"If they appear at all, these black holes would exist for "about a nano-nano-nanosecond," Giddings said, adding that they would have no effect of consequence. However, the paper studies whether there could be any large-scale effects in an extremely hypothetical situation where the black holes don't evaporate.

The Giddings/Mangano study concludes that such microscopic black holes would be harmless. In fact, he added, nature is continuously creating LHC-like collisions when much higher-energy cosmic rays collide with the Earth's atmosphere, with the Sun, and with other objects such as white dwarfs and neutron stars. If such collisions posed a danger, the consequences for Earth or these astronomical objects would have become evident already, Giddings said."

  2. I certainly hope so.  Imagine:  no more lunar conspiracy questions.  No more 2012 nonsense.  No more Nibiru.  No more paying outrageous sums for gas.  I for one would welcome a tear in the fabric of space time devouring the planet.  It would be for the best.

  3. No LHC will not kill us.

Even if they succeed in creating tiny (microscopic Black Hole) they will (a) not suck in everything around us and (b) evaporate rapidly.

Consider this: If the sun were replace by a black hole of the same mass, the gravitational pull on the earth would NOT change, we would continue to orbit. Granted the lack of light would present a few problems, but we would not be sucked in.

As for disproving God - that is unlikely. It should improve our understanding of particle physics and the early universe - but neither of these would disprove the existence of God.

  4. That's an unnecessary fear.  No, the instrument won't bring about the end of the world.  If the years of detonating nuclear weapons hasn't done that, the collider certainly won't.

  5. 1. If scientists working with the LHC thought it would "destroy the planet," they would have stopped working with it.

    2. If any black holes are created, they will dissipate rather quickly.

    3. Religion (or lack thereof) has nothing to do the LHC.

    4. I predict that CERN scientists will be able to prove the existence of the Higgs boson.

  6. Science doesn't prove any religion fake. Science addresses the question of how we are here, religion answers why we are here. Its important to learn the difference. And no, I don't think it will destroy us. Despite the fact that humans have never dealt with so much energy, the LHC is not going to do anything that isn't already happening naturally in space.

On a side note, they're starting it on September 10th? What a perfect birthday present! Yay!

  7. 'some stupid scientist'????... LOL!!!... boy, have you got a lot to learn!

we've been watching the scientists use particle accelerators for YEARS and nothing even close to a scary happening has come of their work.... they actually DO KNOW what they are doing..unlike YOU....

and it's only being 'turned ON' on the 10th.... it won't be for a long time yet that they'll actually get a shot at the hoped-for particle!

  8. The Hadron bad boy has had a little run out already (see link). We're still here and the only black hole is my current bank balance lol.

They're really not interested in proving 'god is fake' or otherwise. In fact, you'll find that a lot of scientists, even at that level, have faith in God.

My prediction is that it will take time to gather results by repeated procedures. Along the way, we'll all be enriched by the new knowledge we'll gain.

Once upon a time, some people thought that the steam engine was dangerous and that travelling over 20mph would cause humans to explode. They also thought that splitting atoms would create black holes. We're still here.

    Relax a little.
