  1. He might, then again he might not. Every rat is different: nobody can give you a blanket answer that applies to every single male rat ever born.

Unfortunately, your female is probably pregnant again, which is VERY BAD. You should have taken the male out BEFORE she gave birth. Now she's pregnant with one litter while nursing another, and neither of the litters will grow up as strong and healthy as they would have had she NOT been pregnant while nursing.

Take the male out NOW, and KEEP him out! Don't put him in again, not until three weeks after he's been neutered. Or you can keep him in a separate cage and introduce the male babies to him when they're old enough - most experienced rat owners recommend this to be OVER six weeks old.

The male babies have to be separated from their mother and sisters at 4.5 to 5 weeks, or they'll impregnate their relatives. A pregnant five-week-old rat is like an eight-year-old little girl who's just had her first period getting pregnant and being forced to carry to term: it might kill her, stunt her growth, etc.

  2. occasionally,

you should separate them right after birth.

  3. yup .... take him out of cage

  4. The male in most species is known to be agressive to the baby. Separate the male from the mother and the rest of the litter so she doesn't feel any stress and can tend to her young in peace.

  5. separate them! now asap! no time to waste

  6. Yes he will he will eat the babies or the mother will be so stressed that she'll eat the babies and it is best for him to be taken out because he could easily impregnate the mother again which is hard on her body and very unhealthy

  7. yes. SEPERATE them asap

  8. its likely it will cuz most rodents do that. its best to seperate the male from hte female and the babies. have it in a different cage for safety.

  9. Take em out. Right now!!!!!

  10. Yes, even though he is the father of the babies he will still eat them or kill them, take him out asap!

  11. yes. take him out so he soesnt eat, kill, or harm your babies.

  12. Yeah he will unfortunately.  It's best to take him out.  The mom will also get stressed out with the male in there.  It should be just the mom and babies in the cage if possible.  You can get a 10-20 gallon aquarium to keep them in if you need another cage.  They are cheap and work well for moms and litters.  Just make sure you get the wire mesh top.  My mom rat Bella would jump to get to me whenever I came near the cage!  Enjoy the babies....they grow up WAY too fast!  CongRATS!

  13. Yes.

    Take him out.

    Just...take him away.

Either he will attack and kill/eat the babies, or she will feel threatened and kill/eat the babies.

It should be mother and litter alone.

  14. yes, he will in order to make her ready to breed again.

you shoudlnt be keeping him in there anyway, she can get pregnant again almost imediatly...and he can impregnate his own daughters at as young as 4 weeks of age...

    netiehr is healthy.

baby boys and girls NEED to be seperated at 4 weeks too to stop brothers enprgentating mommy or sisters!

WHY is there a male in with your female, its irresponsible!
