Will the melting of the Arctic Ice change the ocean currents?

and what will be the most likely changes to the weather pattern because of those changes?

  1. The oceans near to the artic will become more uniform in their temperature distributions and therefore the ocean currents (which are due to temperature differences) will become reduced.

    This effect will also change the air temperatures near to the seas and modify the weather that results, but I don't know how and would need to simulate it in order to be sure. It is likely that the trade-winds would be reduced in their strength.
