  1. yes but you need to practise a variety of shots so if you are good at slice work on topspin or something else, but then in a game use your good shot but use your practice one as well, dot get competitive and not use a shot that needs practising if you are loosing just carry on keep using a variety of shots getting them all better and put it into a game and you will get there

  2. Yes. I started tennis back in February, and I could barely keep a ball in the court. Now, I can keep most of them.

    Practice, practice, practice.

Find an open wall outside of your house (maybe in your backyard if there's concrete, and just hit the ball against the wall. It really helps with your aim. Once you get good at that, make a point on your wall, and keep trying to hit it. Move it and try to stay in the same spot. That helps your aim even more and you start to learn how to hit the ball to make it go elsewhere.

That's what I did, and I feel pretty confident in my abilities.

  3. The old saying is that "practice makes perfect".

If you really want to improve a lot though, a fairly good coach is essential in tennis,

Of course, as tennis is such an eletist game in England, this can be quite expensive.

  4. Absolutely, but also make sure you practice with people who are really good. The better they play -the better it is for you. Also, grab a great coach for fine tuning the game.

  5. Every player hits his plateaus, to drastically improve in a short period of time takes raising the level of play. ie: you must have an opponent whose level of play is greater than your own.  Then, when you rise above his level you move on to the next opponent whose game is above your own.   This is a work in progress until you turn proffessional. Few can achieve the fore mentioned level of play on their own.

The other ninety eight percent will need the assistance of a coach. That coach must have previous" pro" experience.  Practising forever until the end of time, will take you until the end of time to increase your level of play. However, a comprehensive understanding of tennis theory will take you from a "C" level tournament player  to an "A" level tournament player  over night.

Understanding how to bisect the angle of return, and how to play the important points ........... etcetera are a couple of examples of how tennis theory is in the arsenal of every player in the top one-hundred in the world.
