Question:

Will the navy base (TLA) reimburse my husband if we get a more expensive hotel room with a kitchen? ?

I guess this is kind of a dumb question but I'm asking anyway. I think they would because it is the New Yokosuka Hotel in Japan with government rates, by the base. I'll have to stay there over a week and it is not a suite. I know the TLA (temporary lodging allowance) is suppose to refund us for at least 30 days of hotel stay if we don't get housing right away, but will they only refund us for the amount of a very bottom of the line room. For example, the single occupancy cheapest room (with gov. discount) is aprx. $140 and the cheapest room with a kitchenette is aprx. $180, will we just get $140 back? Just wondering. And... Does anyone know what the limit really is on the TLA?

  1. The limit for TLA is $149 per day, anything above that you pay out of pocket.  You do also get an amount for food per person.

TLA can actually be up to 60 days and if necessary extended.

  2. the listed per diem..based on the NAVY LODGE rate..which was like $65/night. anything over is OOP.  no rooms in the Lodge on Base?  I stayed there for EIGHTY SIX loooooong days all covered by TLA..but we had housing assignment, they just couldn't move us in right away( Tsubaki Tower by the elementary school/Fire station was just opening up)

30 days TLA, anything after that is  on a space A basis ,with approval from the housing office( you have to show that you have been actively looking for a place or have been offered a housing unit)

oh and BTW...the HNY rooms are TINY  as in MINISCULE.    you really really really do NOT want to use the HNY unless there is absolutely no other alternative..

    Lemmee guess: GW?

  3. they only pay a certain amount you pay the rest
