I own an SB800 and don't want to dish out over $600 for a receiver and transmitter made by pocketwizard. Just curious if this will work.

  1. Why would U want this?  The SB-800 can be wirelessly synced with an Nikon digital SLR with remote TTL flash without the need for a special unit (unless U have a low-end Nikon or high-end Nikon, which would then need an SU-800 or an SB-800 in the hot shoe).  U can set different channels to avoid interference with another i-TTL flash.

The Cybersync is made for a studio flash, not for a hotshoe flash.

U would need to get a monolight to make the Cybersync worth your money.  A less expensive alternative to the Pocket Wizard is the FlashWave.
