Will the post office give me the forwarding address of a renter who left my rental property without paying rent, and he also stole my refrigerator? The renter did give a forwarding address to the post office, and how can I get the address? Any ideas?

  1. You can send first-class mail to the old address with an  "Return Service Requested" endorsement. The mail will be returned to you with the new address if the USPS has a forwarding address on file. The best part is that since the mail is returned to you, your renter won't be tipped off that you have the new address.

Just mark "Return Service Requested"  under your return address.

  2. In this case you send a letter to the old address and right below the return address you place the words ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED. There will be a service fee for this which you would pay when the new address is sent back to you.

  3. If you know the person's name, you can send a certified letter to him/her at his/her old address, and request it to be forwarded.  Once he/she signs for it, the card will come back to you with the new address.

Just a tip -- you might want to disguise the letter as a birthday card or something.  If he/she sees that the letter is from you, they probably won't sign for it.

Just buy a 99 cent card at the drugstore and use that.

  4. Go to your local post office.  Ask them about procedures.  Used to be for a fee you could get forwarding address filed.  Otherwise send letter first class mail to tenants, marked under your return address as the PO tells you so that you will get forwarding.

AND go to the police and file a police report!!!!
