...... make any difference to the protestor's western middle class comfortable lifestyles. Just a "Bluddy good day out".

Politics runs the world and not sport. The Olympics were given to The Chinese People's Republic after they won it. These protests are ridiculous and rather negative.

  1. I am from a working class background and it was a Bl**dy cold day out!

Take a look at the latest information and images from Tibet at www.freetibet.org

Perhaps they will make you think again!

  2. Any hand wringing now is academic.

The time for such protest was back before China was awarded the Olympic Games!

Talk about bolting horses and stable doors!

  3. No.I think it's a Religious-Political-Secular issue that HAS to be solved by them! Besides I never care at all for Olympics!

  4. The International Olympics Committee [IOC], gave the Olympic Games to China for 2008 on the understanding that they, the Chinese, would put their house in order concerning the serious issues surrounding the lack of human rights in China.

Human rights in China are not merely denied to those held in detention, but to the entire Chinese nation.

The Chinese people have no say in their own governance.  The all powerful Chinese Communist Party dominates almost every aspect of the lives of the people.  What they are allowed to see and read in the news etc.

Imagine being told by your government that everything was going well, everyone had a job, when you knew people who did not have a job, but you could say nothing, becuse if you did, you would have your job taken from you and given to someone else.

...and worse, your children would be bullied at school, your wife would find it difficult to buy food and so forth.

We live here in UK in a highly sophisticated and organised democracy.  We are at liberty to go on the streets, wave banners, should slogans and no one is going to arrest us for that.

You cannot do anything like that in China, save in Hong-Kong where there is a special dispensation, but even so, everything must first be sanctioned by the Chinese Government.

This is what anyone making a protest has finally got to deal with - it is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party : -

Finally, a message to the Chinese People and their Government.

The people of London are NOT angry with the people of Tibet for protesting the occupation of their country by the Chinese during the running of the Olympic Flame here in London.

UK is an open and free democracy and everyone is entitled to have their say and protest if they wish.

The Chinese government are blocking Internet access to their people.

  5. Everyone (in Britain at least) has a right to peaceful protest. It is a way of letting the government and the world know how strongly we feel about certain issues.

However, I believe that it is right that China is holding the Olympics, and it would be wrong to boyctt them.

The ordinary Chinese people are very proud that the Olympics are being held in Beijing, and they are not responsible for the actions of their government.

China has only relatively recently started opening up to the rest of the world.

We need to keep those chanels open if we hope to influence China at all.

If China once again becomes a closed country, the abuse will still go on but the rest of the world will know less about it and be able to do nothing.

  6. Whilst the West continues to buy Chinese products and continue tradingwith China, the Chinese Government won't give a rats @rse about a few protesters.

Until the Establishment takes the necessary steps to boycott Chinese goods (and that ain't ever going to happen) it will be business as usual in Tibet.

  7. i'm a working class socialist scumbag, i dont care about the olympics but even i know china is one of the worlds worst human rights abusers.  they should have no platform to spout their political regime.  have you ever been the victim of human rights abuse? i have on more than one occasion but nobody pissed in a pot on my behalf.  i'm denied public housing and employment because of my ethnicity and religion.  it wasnt too long ago my sort were denied the right to an education practise our religion or the right to vote.  what god foresaken country is this? it was the north of ireland not too long ago.  native irish in his own country denied existance or the right to exist.  remember when the catholic kids from the primary girls school were being spat at by protestants/ loyalists on the way to school.  that shocked the world and rightly so. after they were seen on TV behaving like animals the protests stopped.  if a humans rights are being abused put yourself in the abusers shoes,  it doesnt sit right does it?  could you spit at a 7 year old child? i doubt it.

  8. You ahve to make a stand against hypocrasy and atrocity.
