Question:

Will the use of a second modem affect my internet connection in any way?

I have Comcast High Speed Internet, and a wireless Motorolla modem, which is plugged into a computer downstairs of my house, and I have 2 laptops and a Playstation 3 being used over it's wireless. But now I just bought an Xbox 360 and realized that the wireless adapter for it is nearly $100. I was just wondering if I were to buy an additional modem, would it end up competing with the other modem for a strong connection, thus making my internet connection slower, or would there be no difference what-so-ever?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Why not just buy a wireless network bridge.  This will convert your wireless connection to a wired connection

If you were to get an additional modem the monthly fees would just negate the whole point of not buying the wireless adapter.

  2. Additional cable modems will incur an additional monthly fee from Comcast (around $45 per month)...

Better off getting a router that will connect your own devices and share the single cable modem you already have and avoid that extra monthly charge!

If you are saying that your Motorola "wireless"  is also a modem and router, then it will still be cheaper to connect to it and avoid that extra monthly charge to Comcast for another modem!
