Question:

Will the wax on my skis come off if I walk on the carpet?

I recently got my skis freshly waxed and I glided on the carpet trying on my skis and boots. My brother noticed that the carpet was extremely slippery only on the areas where I had walked. Is the wax gone now? Dulled? Or just fine?

  1. It's probably a little worse than sliding on snow, but your skis will be fine.

  2. Most of the wax is still there, though it would be a good idea to brush them to remove any carpet fibers.  it probably is worse for the carpet than for your skis.  you shouldn't walk on your carpet with skis or wax them over the carpet

  3. Actually, many people "buff" the wax into the ski after applying...which involves a heavy rubbing action with a cork. Gliding on the floor will serve the same purpose.

EXCEPT: you will probably get carpet hairs/fibers embedded in the wax. This will likely not destroy your bases, but it would be a good idea to brush your skis to remove any yuckies.

They sell brushes that do this, but if you have a clean shoe shining brush, that may work well. Or use anything lint free.

  4. Don't do this again or don't wipe down freshly waxed skis with a terry cloth(I've also seen this done) you'll get fibers embedded into the wax which will burn your bases when you ski on them

As long as you havn't skied yet no real harm done just go over your bases with a lint free cloth and then a cork(the palm of your hand will work fine if you don't have a cork). Breath easily you most likely don't need to rewax
